1. Obtain driveway permit from
the Livingston County Road
Commission
2. Obtain land use from
township
A. Approved Site Plan
B. Plans Stamped by Township – (if applicable)
C. Tax Code Number
D. Lot number, Section Number
E. Must provide LCBD with a receipt of approval from Twp. For PAID
water/ sewer taps |
3. Acquire an address from
Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
Office
(PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME ADDRESSES IN LIVINGSTON
COUNTY ARE NOT ISSUED BY GIS.

THE FOLLOWING STEPS
MAY BE TAKEN IN ANY ORDER
4. Complete building permit
application and the commercial addendum including:
a. Location – Site address, Lot number, Section
number, Sub-division name, etc.
i. Vacant lots must have an address to apply for permit
ii. Proof of ownership of property
b. Owner, builder, Architect, or Engineer Information
c. Water Supply and Sewage Disposal Type
d. Description of work to be done in complete detail.
e. Directions to the work site
f. Sign & date application by person(s) applying for the permit
g. Completed Commercial Addendum |
5. Provide two complete sets of signed
and sealed plans:
a. Soil boring test
b. Signed & Sealed structural calculations
c. Type & Use of all areas
d. Complete information for all special occupancy requirements
e. Complete specifications
f. List all design loads for the building
g. Energy code calculations (ASHRAE 90A-1980 AND 90B-1975)
h. Floor Plan Details 1st, 2nd, Foundation Areas, ect…
i. List all rated assemblies including a diagram of rated assembly
& the design Number
ii. List all penetrations through rated assemblies and the
approved design numbers
iii. Complete door schedule with catalog cuts for all doors and
hardware including locks
iv. Complete window and glazing schedule
v. Complete interior finish schedule with the flame spread ratings
i. Front, Sides, and Rear Elevations
j. Details showing accessibility requirements
k. List the design professional in charge
l. List of required special inspections
m. Electrical design – including locations of all exit and means
of egress lighting
n. Plumbing design
o. Mechanical design
p. Provide statement indication shop drawings will be submitted
for all fire protection systems |
6. Grading permit(s) or waiver from
the Livingston County Drain Commissioner
7. Septic & well permit(s) or waivers from the
Livingston County Environmental Health
Department
Electrical, pluming and mechanical
permits are not included with the building permit. These must be be
obtained from the Livingston County Building Department.
