A couple who lives
Out of State must apply for their marriage license in the Michigan
County where the marriage ceremony will take place.
I. Age
a. Both applicants
must be 18 years of age or older
b. For applicant(s)
16 or 17 years of age
i. A certified
birth certificate is required
ii. A
natural/custodial parent must be present, and
1. Must show
a valid driver's license or State ID
2. Must sign
a consent form
II. Valid Driver's
License or State ID for each applicant
a. The license/ID
must show the applicant's current residence address
i. A photo copy
is acceptable
III. Certified Birth
Certificate for each applicant
a. Copies may be
obtained from the State or County where the
birth occurred. If you were born in the State
of Michigan and have access to the internet you may
order a copy from
www.michigan.gov/mdch
b. A Birth
Registration or hospital certificate is NOT
acceptable.
c. A U.S.
Passport/Foreign Passport is NOT acceptable.
IV. Social Security
Card
a. Original or Photo
copy of each applicant's Social Security Card is
required by the State of Michigan
V. Fee of $30 (Cash or
Money Order only, No out of State checks)
VI. Additional
Information
a. The marriage
license must be applied for in person
b. The marriage
license may also be applied for by one of the
applicants.
i. Birth
Certificates and ID Must be submitted for both
parties
c. There is a three
(3) day waiting period between the date of the
application and the date the license will be issued.
d. The license is
valid for 30 days after the issue date.
e. Anyone may pick up
the license. They MUST have the
paid receipt with them.
