About Us

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Livingston County Senior Nutrition Program.  Livingston county offers this nutrition service for senior adults over the age of 60.  Each city offers its own congregate and home delivered program through their senior center.  There are six centers in Livingston County:  Brighton, Howell, Hamburg, Pinckney, Fowlerville, and Hartland.  Residents are serviced from their local senior center.

All of our meals are nutritionally balanced and approved by the Area Agency on Aging 1-B.  The luncheon meal, including homemade breads and desserts which are freshly baked, provide one third of the daily nutritional needs of the senior adult.  These tasty, satisfying, and well balanced meals are offered five days a week.

THE NUTRITION PROGRAM SERVES TWO PURPOSES:

To provide a congregate setting as well as socialization for those seniors who are able to drive to the senior center.  The congregate meal offers an opportunity for senior adults to gather together and share fellowship instead of being isolated and lonely at home.  Many seniors are able to make new friends and find new hobbies and interests at their centers.  This meal offers them the chance to enjoy no cooking, cleaning up or being forced to eat alone.

Approximately 200 Congregate Meals are served each day. Senior Center Contact Information

To provide a hot meal to all homebound seniors of Livingston County who are unable to prepare a meal for themselves.   The home delivered program provides homebound senior adults a noon meal delivered to their door.  These seniors are homebound, isolated, and unable to either cook, shop, or plan meals for themselves.  This meal enables seniors to maintain independent living arrangements where otherwise they might have to go to a nursing home.

About 450 Homebound Meals are delivered each day.  Meals are delivered 5 days per week.  Meals for the weekend could be provided.  If weekend meals are provided they are delivered on Friday.

How do I sign up for the congregate meal?

Just call your local center and tell them you would like to come in and try the noon meal.  A donation of $3.00 is suggested per meal.  Bridge Cards may also be used.  Each center has a Nutrition Hostess that will take your reservation.   The center is open five days a week, Monday through Friday.  Lunch is generally served around 12:00 noon.  Advance reservations are required.

How do I sign up for the home delivered meals?

In order to receive home delivered meals, an Assessor visits homebound individuals and assesses individual needs.  Although this program is not based on financial need, in order to qualify for home delivered meals you must:

Be at least 60 years of age or the spouse of a person at least 60 years of ages that also needs a meal.
Be homebound.
Be unable to participate in the congregate meal program because of physical or emotional problems.
