Vital Records 

Birth Certificates are confidential records and copies may be issued only to the person to whom the record pertains, a parent named on that record, heir, legal representative, or legal guardian of that individual. Anyone else must obtain an order from the Circuit Court or some other court of competent jurisdiction (MCL 326.16)

Birth Certificates The birth must have occurred in Livingston County as all birth certificates are kept by the county in which births occurred. Request a birth certificate form from Livingston County on-line by clicking here. Fill it out on your screen then print it and bring it to the clerk's office along with the required ID's, fees (see below), and/or documentation. YOU MUST INCLUDE COPY OF GOV'T ISSUED IDENTIFICATION.

Mailing Instructions: If we are mailing the record, the address that is on the submitted valid identification MUST match the address that we are mailing the record to.
We are only able to accept checks that are drawn from a Michigan bank account.

 

Death Certificates.  The death must have happened in Livingston County for us to have a record of it. All others (including deaths of Livingston County residents that have died outside of the county) are kept by the county or state in which the death occurred. Request a death certificate form from Livingston County on-line by clicking here. Fill it out on your screen then print it and bring it to the clerk's office along with the required ID's, fees (see below), and/or documentation. YOU MUST INCLUDE COPY OF GOV'T ISSUED IDENTIFICATION

Marriage Licenses. We only have records of marriage licenses that were applied for in Livingston County.  Generally that means that one of the partners was a resident of the county at the time of the marriage. Request a marriage certificate form from Livingston County on-line by clicking here. Fill it out on your screen then print it and bring it to the clerk's office along with the required ID's, fees (see below), and/or documentation. YOU MUST INCLUDE COPY OF GOV'T ISSUED IDENTIFICATION

Fees: One copy of a record is $15.00. Persons age 65 years of age or older shall be charged a fee of $7.00 for a search and one certified copy of his or her birth record.

Additional copies of the same record ordered at the same time are $5.00 each. Please send checks drawn on Michigan banks or a money order payable to:mainlg.gif (4047 bytes) Livingston County Clerk

The fee to search for a record for an unknown year is an additional $15.00
