You will be required to spend one day
for jury selection. You will be excused for an hour lunch break around
noon. All jury trials that you are eligible to serve on will be picked
on this date. The number of cases you may be selected for may vary
depending on the number of cases scheduled to be picked that day. Each
case will be scheduled for trial within 45 days and usually will take no
more that one half day to a whole day. All dates and times of trials are
announced before each jury pick, so any conflicts of schedule can be
stated by any juror as their name is called for a particular case, with
the final decision on granting an excuse is up to the Judge. This allows
people to serve as jurors even if they are not available every day. You
will be require to return only on the dates you were selected to fulfill
your juror obligation.
Please plan on arriving a few minutes early to accommodate the screening
process.
Payment for your service will be in the form of a
debit card that will be mailed to you from Chase Bank.
To be excused for medical reasons requires a statement from your doctor.
You may submit your statement to:
53rd District Court
Court Administrator
204 S. Highlander Way
Howell MI 48843
or by fax to: 517 548 9445
It is your responsibility to confirm your medical excuse approval with the Court Administrator.
The time required for any citizen to serve has been reduced to the
minimum, while the services rendered by each juror are immeasurable. At
the end of your service, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that
you did your part in helping to make your judicial system work.
