Erosion and sedimentation are two separate but inter-related processes. These processes cause different types of environmental damage, and require different control measures to minimize the impacts. Erosion is the process where soil particles are dislodged or detached and put into motion. Sedimentation is the process whereby the detached particles generated by erosion are deposited elsewhere on the land or in our lakes, streams and wetlands. Construction activity is a main cause of accelerated erosion. It is required that either a soil erosion control permit (grading permit) or soil erosion control waiver be issued prior to the start of any construction activity. Both permits and waivers are obtained from the Livingston County Drain Office. Do you need a "Soil Erosion & Sedimentation Control Permit?"
