The Livingston County Friend of the Court is dedicated to preserving the best interests of children in a respectful manner within the Statutes and Court Rules defined by the Michigan Legislature and Michigan Supreme Court.

Michigan Law created the Friend of the Court system in 1919.  At least one Friend of the Court office serves each Circuit Court's Family Division.

The Friend of the Court duties are:

  • To conduct an investigation and make recommendations to the Court regarding:
    • Custody
    • Parenting Time
    • Child Support, Medical Support and sometimes Spousal Support
  • In cooperation with the Michigan State Disbursement Unit (MiSDU), to collect, record and distribute support payments as Ordered by the Court.

  • To help the Court and parties enforce Orders for Custody, Parenting Time and Support.
