When
Can I Join 4-H?October is registration month in Livingston County, however 4-H members can join anytime throughout the year. 4-H club leaders can pick-up necessary forms from the Extension office to enroll their club, new members and volunteers. Certain projects have registration deadlines.
What
Type of 4-H Projects are there?Every 4-H club is unique. Projects that are offered depend solely on the interest of the youth involved and the availability of volunteers. Some of the projects currently active in the county are: gardening, conservation, horse and pony, dog obedience, computers, llamas, dairy, cooking, pocket pets, (hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils) rocketry, poultry, rabbits, sewing, crafts and veterinary science, but you're not limited - this is just the beginning!
4-H clubs are organized and administrated by caring, trained volunteers. Any adult who would like to become a 4-H leader may fill out the appropriate forms at the Extension office. After the application is completed, and a criminal history and reference check are done, the potential leader will be contacted to set up a personal interview.
How
Much Time Will I have to Spend? There are no restrictions. Some volunteers spend many hours a month working on a project, while others spend only a few.
Your club can plan and participate in community service activities, go on field trips, sponsor community activities and much more. Youth in 4-H are invited to participate in the Fowlerville Fair held in July each year, and attend statewide 4-H events throughout the year.
What
Kind of Support is there?Leader training, and a variety of materials (bulletins, books, slides, movies, videos) are available at the Extension office. Our 4-H staff will also assist you.
