Cohoctah Township is located at the
northwest quadrant of Livingston County. It is the largest farming
community in the county and is very rural in nature. The quaint burgs of
Oak Grove, Cohoctah and Cohoctah Center are the only population centers within
the township. Cohoctah was at one time a stop in the Howell to Linden
stage route.
It contains a grain elevator, general store, Post Office, gas station and agricultural
supply store which evidence of this area's primary economic
activities. The estimated population of Cohoctah Township for 2007
census is 3,708 citizens.
The burg of Cohoctah has an annual
4th of July parade and is the only parade that can be seen twice, one time
through town and back again. The township is currently
working on a 40-acre park near Allen and Preston roads. It will be a
recreational park with an archery area, nature trails and picnicking areas. The 4-H
council of Horse Leaders Association will be sponsoring horse shows at the
park.
