Howell Township was organized in 1836, originally contained what is now known as Cohoctah, Conway, Deerfield, Handy and Oceola Townships. Howell Township's location as a central township gives it a feeling of both city and country. The township is closely affiliated with the City of Howell and experiences residential and industrial growth that stems from the city. The township also consists of beautiful farmland and country atmosphere. The estimated population of Howell Township in 2007 was 6,710 citizens.
