Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor Michigan

The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System provides outpatient and inpatient care to more than 40,000 veterans living in southeastern Michigan and northwestern Ohio.

The main campus houses 100 acute care inpatient beds and 40 extended care beds, and a clinical addition building for outpatient, diagnostic, and surgical services. 

As the major VA referral facility for Michigan’s lower peninsula, the health system supports numerous specialty care programs, including a cardiac center, neurosurgery, hemodialysis, and cancer treatment, as well as the latest diagnostic technology in radiology.

The nuclear medicine network provides nuclear imaging interpretation services to public and private facilities. The facility also offers special treatment programs to meet the health care needs of women veterans, Enduring and Iraqi Freedom Veterans, spinal cord injured patients, former prisoners of war, and other veteran populations with special needs.

Other VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System sites include community-based outpatient clinics in Flint and Jackson, Michigan, and Toledo, Ohio. 

The Ann Arbor facility also houses a comprehensive research program in clinical, basic sciences, and health services research, and one of VA’s 17 Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Centers. 

A major teaching facility, VA is affiliated with the University of Michigan Medical School, and 60 other colleges and universities. VA Ann Arbor employs more than 1600 staff and has over1000 volunteers.

VA Medical Center in Detroit

The 217 bed full-service VA Medical Center in Detroit is located adjacent to Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center, and is affiliated with the University. Veterans from Livingston county can choose to go here if they wish, especially if there is a specialization they need. 

They also operate community based outpatient clinics in Pontiac and Yale. 

Other programs include PTSD, mental health and substance abuse treatment, and care for homeless veterans.
