LIVINGSTON COUNTY AUXILIARY MEMBER OF THE YEAR 2005

CAROL JOHNSON

of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6464 Ladies Auxiliary, Fowlerville

Carol Johnson has been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 6464 Ladies Auxiliary in Fowlerville since 1991, joining under her father, World War II veteran George Monroe.  She is married to Bob Johnson, a Marine Corps veteran who served in the Vietnam War.  She is also the >Proud Army Mom= of Sergeant Gregory McCoy, a member of a Military Police (MP) company currently stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and recently returned from a year of service in the Iraq War.  Greg is a member of VFW Post 6464 and his wife Lori is a member of the Ladies Auxiliary; they have two children, Logan 4 2 and Tyler 18 months.  Carol=s daughter Michelle Potchynok is also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary 6464.  Carol also has a daughter Katie Dobroczynski, a stepson Eric, and a stepdaughter Christina.  For the last eight years Carol has worked at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center at Michigan State University.

Carol is currently serving as the President of the VFW 6464 Ladies Auxiliary, and in the past years she has held the offices of Senior Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and was a Trustee for five years.  She has served as the Auxiliary=s chair of the Buddy-Poppy committee for two years, Cancer committee for two years, VFW National Home for Children committee for the past four years, and this year she is also chair of the State District 6 VFW National Home for Children  committee, and for several years has helped at holiday parties and picnics for the Home=s children.  Carol attends most of the State VFW and Auxiliary conferences and the District 6 meetings.  She promotes the Buddy-Poppy program there by putting on displays and gathering donations.  She has won both State and District awards for her efforts.


In the community Carol participates in the Memorial Day and 4th of July parades in Fowlerville every year.  She assists placing markers and flags on the veterans graves each year in the Fowlerville area cemeteries.  She is on the Fowlerville 4th of July committee raising funds for the event.  Last year she assisted in building a float for the parade for the families of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom to ride on.  Last year she also participated in a 5K walk for Operation Uplink sponsored by the Michigan National Guard.  She attended many Livingston County Support Our Troops Rallies, and took part in the memorial services at the County War Memorial for the county servicemen killed in the Iraq War.Carol has also been a member of the American Legion 215 Auxiliary in Fowlerville for 45 years, and is currently serving as Secretary/Treasurer.  She is also an active member of the Michigan Child Study Association, and was State President in 2002.  For all of her service to veterans, community and country the Livingston County Veterans Council, comprised of the 24 veterans and auxiliary organizations in the county, has elected Carol Johnson to be the Livingston County Auxiliary Member of the Year 2005.
